Transformative Coaching and Hypnotherapy

Frequently Asked Questions

Here you'll find answers to common questions about hypnotherapy
and how we’ll work together. If you have more questions,
feel free to get in touch.

Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy that uses hypnosis to create a state of focused attention and increased suggestibility. In this state, you can access thoughts, feelings, and memories that might be hidden from your conscious mind. The unconscious mind can be influenced through visualisations and suggestions, inducing behaviour changes.

Hypnotherapy can assist with a wide range of issues, including stress, anxiety, insomnia, pain management, phobias, weight management, smoking cessation, various addictions and increased performance and confidence. It’s a versatile tool that promotes healing and personal growth.

Hypnotherapy is a safe and non-invasive therapeutic approach when guided by a qualified practitioner. You remain fully in control during sessions and can come out of the hypnotic state at any time.

No, you will not lose control. Hypnosis is a natural state of selective, focused attention, and even though you’re more open to suggestion, you remain fully in control of your behaviour.

The number of sessions varies depending on the individual and their goals. Some people see changes in as few as one to three sessions, while others may require more. We’ll tailor the therapy to your specific needs.

Our first session will last about 90 minutes. Subsequent sessions typically last between 45 minutes and an hour.

During the first session we will explore in depth your goals and desired future state.  I will then guide you into a trance-like state with heightened focus and concentration. This state is achieved using tools like repetition or visualisation. While in this state, you’re more open to suggestions that can help you make positive changes.

Most clients describe hypnotherapy as a relaxing and pleasant experience. It’s often compared to the feeling of being deeply absorbed in a book, movie, or music, or a meditation.

Most people can be hypnotised as long as they are willing. It’s a common misconception that only certain types of people can be hypnotised.

I will send you a questionnaire to fill out and return before your first session. On the day, come with an open mind and ready to engage in the process. Whether we meet in person or online, wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to discuss what you want to achieve with hypnotherapy.

If we meet online we will use Zoom or Teams, depending on what works best for you.  Set yourself up in front of your camera so you can relax into a comfortable position, and I can see your face, torso and hands. Ensure you are in a private and quiet space where you will not be disturbed or interrupted.  Test your internet connection so we don’t risk being disconnected during the session.

Stage Hypnosis is performed for entertainment, often in front of an audience, where the hypnotist may use rapid inductions and suggestibility tests to engage volunteers in amusing antics.

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic practice where hypnosis is used to help individuals make positive changes, such as quitting smoking or managing stress. It involves guiding the client into a relaxed state to be more receptive to suggestions. It does not involve the systematic exploration of past experiences and traumas.

Psychotherapy is a broader term for therapies that involve conscious exploration and dialogue to address psychological and emotional challenges. It does not necessarily involve hypnosis.

Individuals with epilepsy, severe mental illnesses like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or personality disorders may not be suitable for hypnotherapy.
